๐Ÿ’‰ Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (DTP) Vaccination in Prescot

Private DTP Travel Vaccine at Prescriptions Pharmacy

๐ŸŒ Prescriptions Pharmacy provides private Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (DTP) vaccination in Prescot as part of our travel vaccination service.

A DTP booster may be recommended for travellers visiting countries where diphtheria or polio still occur, or where access to emergency medical care may be limited. It also helps maintain protection against tetanus for outdoor, remote or adventure travel.

๐Ÿงญ What Does the DTP Vaccine Protect Against?

The combined DTP vaccine helps protect against three serious infections in one injection.

๐Ÿฆ  Diphtheria โ€” a serious bacterial infection that can affect the throat and airways

๐Ÿฉน Tetanus โ€” caused by bacteria entering wounds, cuts or punctures

๐Ÿง  Polio โ€” a viral infection that can affect the nervous system and may cause paralysis

๐Ÿ’‰ Vaccination helps maintain protection against all three infections

๐Ÿ“Œ Your pharmacist will review your destination, vaccination history and planned activities before advising whether a DTP booster is recommended.

โœˆ๏ธ Who May Need a DTP Booster?

A DTP booster may be recommended depending on your travel destination, previous vaccination history and the type of trip you are taking.

๐ŸŒ Travellers visiting areas where polio or diphtheria still occur

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Adventure travellers, trekkers and backpackers

๐Ÿš‘ Travellers visiting remote areas with limited healthcare access

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Travellers undertaking manual, volunteer or construction work abroad

๐Ÿฉบ Healthcare workers and humanitarian aid workers

โœˆ๏ธ Travellers whose last DTP booster was more than 10 years ago and who are travelling to a risk area

If you are unsure when you last received a DTP booster, bring any vaccination records you have to your appointment.

๐Ÿ“… DTP Vaccine Schedule

For travel purposes, DTP is usually given as a single booster injection if you have previously completed a routine childhood vaccination course.

๐Ÿ’‰ Usually given as a single booster dose

โœˆ๏ธ Ideally given at least 2 weeks before travel where possible

๐Ÿ” A booster may be recommended if your last dose was more than 10 years ago and you are travelling to a risk area

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ In most circumstances, five appropriately spaced doses provide long-term protection

๐Ÿ“Œ Individuals with incomplete vaccination histories may require a full catch-up course

For travellers visiting remote regions where emergency medical care may be difficult to access, making sure tetanus protection is up to date is particularly important.

DTP vaccination may also be relevant for certain occupations, placements and higher-risk activities.

๐Ÿงช Laboratory workers handling relevant organisms
